Silver w/ blue leather, interior appears original with light patina as does the French walnut interior trim. Exterior paint and bright work to an extremely high level. 32,593 original miles. Consigned by an SL Market Letter subscriber who specializes in M100 series sedans. SOLD for $143,000. After looking this car over very carefully during the preview, I was surprised when it hammered sold for just $130,000 against the auction estimate of $140k – $170k. Sure, with the buyer’s premium of 10% the price goes up to $143k for the buyer, but the seller takes home 10% less, just $117,000. Referring to our price guide (below) (see Mercedes 600 feature here), that’s in-line with a solid #2 condition car and that’s what this car appeared to be. Am I the only one that thinks these cars are grossly under valued? I spoke with the consignor a few days after the sale, he also consigned lot #102, the dark blue 1971 280SE 3.5 coupe that also sold for $143,000 against an estimate of $150k – $175k. The consignor was not at all happy, with either result, expecting significantly more money for both cars.
